Oils are my favorite choice for exploring color. The richness and accuracy of color is exceptional with oils and the slowness of drying time allows for controlled transitions of values and hues.
Presently, most of my oil paintings are still life studies, but I have also enjoyed using oils for en plein air work and figurative studies.
Here again, I enjoy experimentation. I am still exploring the use of surfaces such as Yupo, copper, and panels. I am also still testing the results of different mediums such as alkyds, cold wax, and Liquin.
The palette knife is my preferred tool for application, but interesting textures can be obtained with sponges, silicone tools, and even the occasional paint brush.
